THIS IS AN UNCOMMON CAST IRON SELF WINDING CLOCK CO SHELF CLOCK NAMED PAVONIA IN THE CATALOG.
PAVONIA IS A FLOWERING PLANT NAMED FOR A SPANISH BOTANIST.
LOTS OF STUFF IN A SMALL SPACE. VERY DIFFICULT TO SET BEAT.
CAME WITH BOTH TIME ONLY AND TIME AND STRIKE 156 BEAT MOVEMENT.
TIME ONLY USED THE SAME MOVEMENT WITH THE STRIKE PARTS LEFT OFF THE MOVEMENT.
INTERESTING WOOD ADAPTER SCREWED TO CASE AND USED TO MOUNT THE MOVEMENT.
THERE ARE KNOWN TIME ONLY VERSIONS WITH THE STANDARD 140 BEAT PENDULUM MOVEMENT WHICH USES A DIFFERENT MOUNTING SET UP.

Never knew they made a striking movement! Really interesting setup. I can only imagine the noise when it rewinds! Great looking clock!
Cheers,
James

Actually it is very quiet when rewinding. I think the wood adapter for mounting the movement isolates it from the metal case.
Best,
Jim

Great clock. Pavonia is an area of Jersey City,, part of the historical Dutch settlement of New Netherland.. At the time that clock was made, there was a ferry there that offered passenger connections from the Erie railroad to lower Manhattan. Maybe one of the principals had some sort of Jersey City connection. Seems more likely than an interest in obscure plants.
