Found I have an old good one that runs but needs a lot of motion use time to run normally. Most seem to have a replaceable lithium battery, but this one calls it a capacitor. It is useful as is. Are later models wth batteriy storage quicker chargers or are both actually batteries? This old model is all original maybe 20 years old? artbissell

The newer capacitors do charge quickly and keep a constant charge. I changed a capacitor in my Seiko kinetic, its a older model and it runs fine. The older capacitors that were used in the kinetic watches i have heard , were not as good as the newer ones made today. I had a older Seiko kinetic and i sold it as when i replaced the capacitor no amount of arm movement would charge it. The one i have now when i check its level is usually around 4 oclock or slightly past.

Thanks for your experienced good judgement. While my old watch may be slow to charge its 2 second hand jumps still provide nearly instant accurate time. and no need to replace a battery. art b.

If it is an older capacitor, you do need to change it because the older capacitors were capable of leaking.

Good comment. I assume you mean electrical current leaking. There is no chemical leaking. After 2 days of wearing it is normally 1 second functioning. After near 10 years no use. AMAZING accuracy with no battery, quartz or spring power. art b.

Hi Art, Ebay has them. I bought mine from a supplier that gave me free shipping in Canada, a Ebay seller.

It is a replacable part. If it needs replacing it should be replaced.

Thanks again for your help. I am sure I was first owner to open this old $520. original list price junk watch and capacitor is probably original and running perfectly at one second rate with perfect registration. Notice ebay sales indicate it is popular and valuable. art b.

    Well and good.
Clearly the watch and capacitor have never been exposed to extreme heat. Which happens a lot in my part of the world.

I did one of these a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately the "push to show power reserve" button doesn't work and although I've taken a look I can't see why without pulling the whole watch apart. In any case the power reserve with the new capacitor is considerable. Seiko have always made such good watches, and it's ridiculous just how little this model fetches. Here's a snap of mine, on its original bracelet. I detest metal bracelets in general but this one has a really well thought out clasp.

I did one recently as well. Did yours have a bit of apparently floating contact on the movement holding ring?
