This is a hidden gem - it's not a secret, of course, but it escaped my notice for several years despite me living only 25 miles away:

If you're ever in Dorset (and a great many people visit Dorset in the summer holidays) then be sure to look it up:

I have never been either, and I live a bit closer. Are they all Dorset clocks? There are more there than I thought!

Ha, well fancy that! I lived in Dorset for 20 years and close to that as well. I knew about the cider but following an episode in my youth involving a scout camp and the home made contents of a demijohn I have never touched the stuff since.
I think they need to advertise a bit more, I would definitely have visited, and maybe as I was there tried cider again.

When next in Dorset it is on the cards for me.

    Cheers peanuts.

Not every single one, but the majority of the long case ones are.

There are some very fine turret clocks too (mainly French). The count wheel on this turret clock has me mystified; look how may segments it has:

Definitely! Which is why I posted the thread; they deserve a bigger audience.

I noticed that the Conger Street Clock Museum in Eugene Oregon isn't listed.

The listing for USA TX is not Lockport...it's Lockhart. For whoever is in charge of the webpage!

Ha, we get even fewer visitors!

They have more Dorset clocks than I do, I wonder if they have one as early?

I can't remember the date on the earliest one – sorry. The brochure says they are displayed in date order – so the left-most one in my first photo would be the earliest, I think. And the right-most in my second picture, one of the latest. And, in the picture below, somewhere in the middle:

Just let me know your opening hours...;)

The oldest longcase looks to be on the right in the righthand picture.

Oh - reverse order then . Just shows how much I have yet to learn! I should have read the brochure, which I have in front of me:

"The long-case clocks are in date order, from elaborate brass dials to the painted dials of the late 18th and 19th centuries."

There are two more long-case clocks to the right of the ones in my second picture, so they would be the oldest. You'll have to go to find out for yourself!

The oldest one in your pic is younger than my earliest Dorset clock, will have to see what the other two are. Longcase clockmaking had a late start in Dorset.

If looking at clocks makes you thirsty there is also a cider museum and shop selling cider
All British cider, unless the label says othewise, contains alcohol

Oh yes - some more than others!:eek::oops:

I'm still curious about that 14-segment count-wheel though. I took the picture in case someone thought I had been looking at it through cider goggles...
