• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Hello to all on the NAWCC forum.
I have been collecting clocks for some time and have a question about a clock I just purchased.

It's a Schlenker & Kienzle with the words Austria below the logo. I would assume this clock was not manufactured in Schwenningen Germany? First one I have seen with Austria on it.
I think it's an early clock but know nothing about where it was made (factory) or approximate date etc. My books have nothing on this one.
Any information you would have on this clock would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to interacting with fellow clock enthusiasts.

Your clock was probably made in Austro - Hungary, in Komotau, S&K branch factory established in 1888.

Hi all!
I'm collecting a database of the firm "Schlenker & Kienzle". Signed "Austria" is very rare, this is the second clock with the stigma "Austria". This movement was made сirca 1914 year.

Hi Tatyana,
Would you happen to have any documentation available stating this?
I am under the impression that that this clock is earlier than that.
As well I am puzzled as to why they would have stamped "Austria" under the logo in English and not in German.

Hi!
I think that "Austria" was an export product.
Unfortunately no documents on numbering "Schlenker and Kienzle".
I have the movement with s/n 22960 and patent-11130 (onset of action - March 1903).
The conclusion that in 1914 year on the basis of statistical date. The biggest Komotau this type of movements have the serial number is 189251.
During WW1 clocks no made (or very little), after 1918 year the movements Komotau was the inscription "MADE IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA",
Most clocks Komotau looked very conservatively, rarely in the style of art Nouveau.
Clocks with s/n 188796 and 189251:

Tatyana,
Thank you kindly, you are a wealth of knowledge.

Tarant,
Thanks for posting the advertisement.

I now have a better idea of what I am dealing with. "Austria" mark must have been for the export market to perhaps England.
Most likely a harder to find clock.

Hello Colleagues,

I suppose "Austria" under the Kienzle's winged wheel was just another trademark assigned to their specific solid-plated movement with cut pinions. They had another movement type with "Bohemia" underneath the winged wheel (see the other two pics attached), and that one is a rather simple model, with lantern pinions. Remember, in the same time GB had their "Silesia" model which was also a simplier mass-production movement.

So in my opinion it does not related to the export trade.

Best regards,
Oleg

Very interesting indeed.
I took the movement out of one of my other Keinzle clocks and attached a picture to add to this conversation.
This one has a "II" under the logo.

Regards,

Roland.

Hi, Roland!
Roman numeral "II" designation of the second quality at Kienzle.
Sometimes it is the stigma of "SECUNDA QUALITAT".
Your movement was made in 1902/1903 year.
