In a book by E. John Tyler, "Black Forest Clocks," he writes that Schlenker & Kienzle started a small business in 1883 in the village of Schwenningen and by 1900 had marketing branches in Italy, Bohemia, Trieste and Paris employing 150 workmen.

I suspect the serial numbers vary according to the manufacturing location, principally Schwenningen and in Bohemia.
