• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

I wonder if anyone can help me with a part for the suspension spring. I ordered a "complete" suspension spring unit, but there's nothing to attach it to the bracket. The first photo is my movement, the other is from the internet, showing what the missing part looks like. It's got a screw in the top and a thumb screw in the side. If anyone has a spare part and is prepared to ship it to Australia, I'd be eternally grateful and, of course, happy to pay for it.

Any chance you can find another similar Schatz on one or your craigslist-type sites and buy another clock that is basically parts? Maybe something at a flea market or antique store. I suspect I might have something but I am not near my stash right now.

Hi Kurt,
Thanks for responding. I'm not in any hurry as this is my own clock. I'm keeping an eye on eBay and Gumtree, but I just thought I'd ask on here. I'm just starting out on this journey of clock repairs, so if I find a reasonably priced clock in need of repair I'll buy it and try to get it working. :) So my problem is that if I buy another one, I'm more likely to try to fix it rather than cannibalise it for spares!

I fully understand that...believe me! You'll finally find an abused clock, maybe the brass base is tarnished, cracked, etc., and you would be able to "kick the can down the road" and repair the newer one that's more of a keeper. Schatz 49 clocks are fairly prolific.

Unfortunately with a total Australian population of less than 30 million and specifically Western Australian population of less than 3 million, (this works out to an average of 2.6 people per square mile) nothing is really prolific here and postage from the US is usually very expensive and almost as bad within Australia - recently I've ordered parts from Cousins in the UK because it's cheaper than getting them from Queensland.
Just recently FB marketplace has gone mad - e.g. people want around AU$400 - AU$600 for a basic second hand cuckoo clock.

I have the parts you need and would be happy to send them to you for the price of the postage. Contact me via PM and we'll set it up.

Looks like Schatznut has you covered, but just for the record, one can order the parts directly from Horolovar (as I once had to). Their shipping via 1st class mail is very reasonable.

The part numbers (from appendix 78, page 221 in the Repair Guide) are 49/ 36 (Suspension Saddle) and 49/ 37 (Saddle Holding Screw).
