With the questionable stairways and ladders (home made) to the tower and the not so safe flooring, does anyone use safety harnesses while working on these tower clocks? I almost fell through the steeple floor opening while grabbing an 8X8 beam to lift myself up only to find out it was just laying there and not part of the structure, my will to live and upper body strength was the only thing keeping me from falling through.
One of the ladders were boards nailed to the beam like we did when we were kids building tree houses.

Not yet. But there sure are some ladders like you described in many places.
