Rockford 8s movements

I am asking for information from anyone regarding the 8 size Rockford movements. I am working up a project and this is the only way I have of accumulating the necessary information. I am asking that you include the following information for each movement you have or have information about: Serial number, Type (A or B, refer below), jewel count or number of jewels on back 3/4 plate, finish and your name or initials or how you would like to identified. Shown are two models I am identifying as Type A (on the left, like #211981) or B (on the right, like #205376). Your help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

I had about a dozen of these mvts a while back, but sold them off. The only info I could find for these in my files are for two nickel mvts with either 9 or 11 jewels (two plate jewels showing). They are #s 212309 and 212503. Both are similar to your type "A".

Actually, I am preparing an article on the history of Rockford with models for submission. This 8s project is an offshoot and hopefully will clear up some mis-labelling that has occurred.

Darrah, I have SN 205,444. Its a type B model which has the lever, escape wheel, 4th wheel and third wheel jeweled with screw down settings. It's been about 10 years since I removed the dial so I can't remember if the pillar plate is jeweled. The movement is nickel and the mainspring barrel is gilt.

Here are the details of the 8s Rockford that recently came my way. It is a confirmed 15 jewel grade and has a "double sunk" dial. The center is recessed, like many of the early 18s Rockford dials, but it is not a separate piece as in later "regular" double sunk dials. Waltham, in their material catalogs, referred to their similar dials as "ground center". Gotta love the open morning glory hands.

Nice movement and glad it is a 15j. I have it listed in my db and falls within the second group of what I call model 1b. I recognized that it had a ds dial (from ebay) and listed it, but missed it on reporting to you earlier, as either 11 or 15j. Seems to me that any 8s with a ds dial has a reasonable chance of being 15j. The nice nickel damascene also gives me a hint that it might be special. I am sure some of the questionable '11j or 15j' movements I have recorded could be 15j but I need to see it or have an owner confirm it. Unfortunately, too many owners don't know the true jewel count (either 11 or 15j) without visual clarification and don't have confidence of removing the hands and dial. I know it is a chore for some. Thanks for updating me on your nice movement and great to view it.
