Collectors love variations. And for some makes, e. g. Hamilton, the different markings for a given grade can make a world of difference (in many ways). But why should Hamilton collectors have all the fun?

Anyway, probably out of boredom I decided to gather a bit of info on Rockford's famous 24 jewel grade 900 (this is the open-face version, the hunter is the grade 800). I was rather surprised by how many marking variations there are. The things I looked for are "RG", "900", "Adjusted" (where it was marked), "Double Roller", "5 Positions" and "Five Positions". Interestingly, of these only "Adjusted" appears on all variants.

Anyway, here are the variations that I came across and some s/ns of mvts that fit such

    "Adjusted" (on balance bridge)
    519305
    519322
    519327
    519345

    "Adjusted" (on balance bridge), "RG"
    525049
    525054
    525066
    535226
    535249
    535264

"Adjusted" (on balance bridge), "RG", "900"
    535353
    535364

"Adjusted" (on balance bridge), "RG", "900", "5 Positions"
    525005
    542639

"Adjusted" (on balance bridge), "RG", "900", "Double Roller (on barrel bridge), "5 Positions"
    542567
    542628

"Adjusted" (on balance bridge), "RG", "900", "Double Roller" (on train plate), "5 Positions"
    666038
    666100

"Adjusted" (on barrel bridge), "900", "Double Roller" (on train plate), "Five Positions"
    666218

So, the lower SNs, with a couple of exceptions, had less verbiage.
My 535xxx fits right in with your second group.
Have you worked up the 800s yet?

    Darrah,

I haven't looked at the grade 800 variants but would assume that they follow a similar progression.

Great topic Greg and hope to see this one continue as contributors add more examples to the list. When I get a chance I'll see if I can find a few serial numbers to add.

Here's my 900. I bought it off ebay around 20 years ago.
