Silver case from London 1805.

IC= Perhaps,,,George & John Carpenter Clerkenwell, (I Carpenter)

There is a french lily on the dial below the seconds hand. Why?

Any information regarding this watchmaker J Roberts?

There is some interesting old promotion labels inside the case...

One of my favourite case maker's marks - George & John Carpenter, 12 King Street Clerkenwell.

Hi John,
One of my favourite case maker's marks - George & John Carpenter, 12 King Street Clerkenwell.
A hangover of the rebus which many makers used in earlier, less literate times. There's another one here, what looks like a clay pipe at the bottom, perhaps for the jointer.

Regards,

Graham

Graham,

Here's a rebus clay pipe that has passed from Chester, via Ormskirk, France, through your hands, and back to France ...

Ah, yes, that was such a brief acquaintance that I'd forgotten it. It's also a left-handed one!

Hi Peter,

It matches the other three at 12, 3 and 9 on the main chapter.

Regards,

Graham
Yes, thinking about it this symbol where also common on watch hands. I guess it was a religious symbol or what was the purpose at the time do you think?

Tired yesterday evening.... The pocket watch is marked "B Roberts London No 74..."

That music-themed balance cock is wonderful, not to mention the wonderful verse on the watch paper. Thanks for sharing!

As an aside, the verse on the watch paper might also appear elsewhere, but courtesy of Google Books, I found it in The New England Farmer (page 64) February 1859 issue.
