I've been told by VC that this piece was sold to the RN in 1940 as a movement only, housed in a brass transport mount with front and back glass, later mounted in a Dennison transit case.

Any opinions if it would have been rated an HS2?

Nice I got a soft spot for any type of navigation watch and that looks like it's in great condition. Is the case back been replaced with see through back ? the case back should have all that info with all the issue marks to tell you if it's rated an HS2 but being that maker I bet it's rated HS2 .

    Country Flag:
The original brass mount with glass front and back was supplied by V&C and is similar to the mounts used to submit observatory watches for trials. The Dennison bowl has a brass o-ring to allow the watch to fit snugly. This o-ring isn't present with my silver-cased HS2 watches which also have, as you mention, the rating engraved on the back.

Wonder if you can post a photo of the case back with issue marks please.
