Help. I have an old Revere two plate electric clock. The minute and hour hands keep getting stuck at 12 and stalling the rotor. I can physically move the hands and it will start working again. When doing this I feel quite a bit of resistance. Any one encounter this, or know why this is happening? I took the movement apart about 6 months ago, and cleaned every part. I oiled the bushings, and nothing seemed worn. Any advice or ideas much appreciated.

Removing the dial revealed the lifting lever spring had been shorted and a wire wrapped around the lifting lever. The wire was fouling with the hour wheel and causing the clock to stall at 12 o clock.

I removed the wire. Now it misses the chime. It appears the wire was there to move the lifting lever over another milimeter to catch the shift pin.

Anyone have a better way of fixing this?

These is really a nice clock, and I hate to leave it as time only.

Thanks

If it is only a millimeter off, try carefully bending the pin that catches the lever which engages the chime. It is possible it was bent slightly when doing repairs. Careful not to bend it too much or you will nullify the self correcting chime feature.
