Have a German made scottish clock (see post under clocks dated 5/22 at 19:18). This clock has had a fair amount of kitchen table repair.
I need to know what length pendulun is required and how it was attached.
Someone glued on a modern suspension bridge. There is a wooden dowel from which the pendulum probably was suspended. Have a badly bent and corroded rod about 34" and a 2 1/2" light brass bob. Any photos would be appreciated

Wull Gramps, it may be us who need the photos. Unless someone is conversationally familiar with your clock - there are many ways to attach the suspension and transfer motion to the pendulum. However I offer my humble and un-erudite view on determining length of it. I make an experimental pendulum from a stick and reasonable size bob, start the clock and begin correction. Sometimes a second or third mock pendulum is necessary if I'm way off. Then when it is regulated on your mock pendulum, you can commence creating the final one to be installed, using your test pendulum as a guide. Your final pendulum will vary a bit, but you'll be within a quarter inch on a long pendulum

Hi, er, Grandpa?
Scottie's method is easiest - a temporary pendulum is easy to fabricate.
BTW, what on earth is a 'German made Scottish clock?' How can it have been made in two places?

For those of you confused about the description of this clock see my post of 5/22 under clocks and the resulting answer.

I looked at the previous posting before responding. I hoped to find a picture there. I think Mike wuz jest teasin' . Really don't matter whether it's Scottish/English - whatever . We want to help you. Now about that suspension thing. Can you give us some more clues? A picture perhaps? Perhaps you can use a generic post, and drill it to match the existing tapped holes. Or. . . help us help you here.

Ah - all is clear now  - Black Forest clock sold in a Scottish shop. Those who know me know not to take a lot of what I say too seriously (repair advice excepted)
Pendulums on these clocks were generally about 30 - 36 inches long and beat about 70 to the minute. Suspension consists of a wood peg in the back cover with a U-shaped wire staple driven in from below, and another U-shaped wire with two loops hanging on this staple. The pendulum rod is iron wire, flattened and bent over at the top, and the bob is cast brass with a tapped lug top and bottom.
I can let you have a drawing and/or photo if it helps

Thanks Mike. Is what you described similar to that used in Cuckoo clocks?
I have the wooden peg and can probably construct
a cuckoo style suspension.

Yes, just the same except that you have a wood peg instead of the steel one rivetted to the back plate of a cuckoo, and, of course, everything is bigger. These, although looking crude, are good, reliable clocks and excellent timekeepers!
