i find myself in the possible need of a heat gun. I’ve heard a lot of you folks talk about using them, so are there any recommendations? Any suggestions on what I should look for, the pros & cons?
Any info is appreciated,
Thanks
Jim

Jim,
My experience would indicate that having variable heat seating and variable fan speed is very beneficial. The one that I have is a Porter Cable.

I gather the answer depends on the intended use, determining the amount of heat to be delivered at what temperature. When you say 'heat-gun', do you envisage one of those gun-shaped thingies that is typically used to strip paint ? Or did you think of a small hot air-soldering station ?

For soldering, pre-heating, blueing and tempering I use one of those cheapo Chinese hot-air soldering stations like this:

Its temperature range is 100°C to 450°C and the air-flow can also be regulated. They cost around 40€ on ebay et al.

There are also monile hot-air soldering pens, which are essentially a torch that heats the air-flow, rather than directing the flame to the soldering joint, for contactless soldering. They usually also come with soldering tips.
