Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share this amazing clock I just picked up. It’s a Gustav Becker Vienna Regulator that strikes on 2 sets of 4 rod chords.

The case is a thing of its own. The case is in the style of Jurgendstil (Art Nouveau). The beveled glass on this is very thick and high quality that I have only seen in higher quality French clocks. The case is also very well built and in good condition. The only thing I am concerned about the case is that the levelers are missing as well as the supporting pieces of metal. But overall, the case uses a nice straightforward design with a flat bottom allowing it be set on a shelf. There is only a bit of missing veneer which should be able to be replaced.

The mechanism of this clock is very interesting as well. It uses helper springs as well as a weight to drive the qtr strike/strike trains. The time train is only weight driven. I will attach some side pictures and some back pictures of the movement to better document this rare movement. The point of concern on this is that the weights are super close together. One very interesting thing about this is it’s hammer arrangement. It is parallel to the floor and a side striker.

There is the serial number and an inscription (I cannot understand).

Finally, the chime rods on this is the center of attention for this find! It strikes on an extremely rare Harfen gong with 8 rods. I think this striking easily beats the 2 gong or rod assortment since it produces the best sound ever!

The dial unfortunately has wax flaking.

Any questions, comments, complaints with anticipation of response is highly appreciated.

Here is an (the very rare if not only) audio recording of this clock. Hope it works!
Thanks!

The Oest. Pat. would indicate the Austrian patent registration for the Harfen Gong. This patent revolves around that circular weight which
affected the sound of the gong rods: giving more emphasis on the lower frequencies, resulting in a sound similar to a harp.

It really does sound nice. I would expect John Hubby to have more information about the movement and how many were made.

Very nice and rare example. I don't see a place where I can hear the audio recording, though.

The recording should be in the iCloud link. It may be different on a different OS but I think you can download the audio.

Yes, the iCloud link worked for me. But it's easy to overlook the link at the bottom of your post.
