Hi,

I recently purchased a clock that was 2 clocks married together. I new it when I purchased it. The face is marked Ingraham but the movement is Ansonia. I tried to look up the Ansonia A28 movement but could not find anything. I have never seen an Ansonia movement that has removable mainsprings. Has anyone seen or repaired this movement? The movement does run but definitely need to be completely overhauled.

Thanks in advance,

If it were mine, I would look for an Ingraham movement and go that way if possible. I don’t know if the galley movement is the only one that would work or not; if so, they may be pretty scarce. I’ve never seen an Ansonia movement with barreled springs and a rack and snail strike myself, but other than their not being very common, I don’t see anything particularly unusual or challenging on that one.

Hi,

Thanks for the responses. I should have included this picture with the others. The suspension rod is mounted in the back of the case as shown in the picture. I am not sure if it was originally an Ingraham clock or an Ansonia clock. It fits the dial very well. I will enjoy bringing this clock back to life. It has been a couple of years since I worked on clocks, but now that I am retired, I have more free time.

Thanks again,

Ronnie

Interesting. Getting the crutch wire lined up with the pendulum rod (suspension rod) should be quite a task. I think I would make a fork for the crutch so it would be easier. Keep us up on your progress.

My gut says if the movement matches the dial holes, go with the same movement.

I am going to keep the movement with the face. I am in the process of cleaning and rebushing the clock where needed.

Thanks to all,

Ronnie

I did one similar to that a few years ago, and didn’t have any problems with it. I passed the bob hook through the crutch loop with the movement loose, moved the movement into position and screwed it down. Trying to do it with the movement installed would be trickier. I guess you would have to pull the pin out of the hanger, and thread the spring end through the crutch loop for installation and removal both.
