The last time I spoke with Danny he was having some "issues" with his health that required visitation from a nurse. I teased him about not chasing her around his house and he replied he only gives them a "kiss on the cheek". As he hasn't answered my last three emails and not posted on the board, I tried to call both yesterday and today but only get his answering machine. Perhaps for those of us who still pray we should say one for him. He really is a great guy with a huge heart for this organization.

It is very worrysome that he has not posted. Maybe Johnny II can type something for us.

I hope many of our members will do so! I left a message ,on Dan's answering machine, asking that someone who may be monitoring it to please call me back with information on what may be his status. I know he has family in the area so I'll pass on what I learn.

I remember once him telling me about a computer problem he was having. He then said he has a nephew who helps him out with these things. So I go on and on about that these "young" people are really good with computers and he was lucky to have someone who could do that for him. After a long pause.......in his slow and deliberate pace he said......"Burt he is 78".

It's a true privilege to know such a descent and honorable person as him.

Thank you - to all “who inquired” about my status in life.; worry not, I am still around, hopefully for a longtime to come.

Since February 10 until today, I have been among the missing. Sadly, there was no way to get in touch with my good friends who help make my days a little easier as I am approaching the life of a 102 years old human being. When you are rushed to a re-hab home without thought of the consequences; often you are put into a state of limbo [your life transforms into a robot controlled by some people who do not belong in that kind of a position…[helping others!]

FRANKLY, I could write a book about the so-called [RE-HAB] establishments and many of its employees who are supposed to help those in these homes to get back their strength and vitality and hopefully any humor they have left in their souls.

Right now, I have a pile of mail, bills to pay among other nonsense, so it may take a few days until I get around to expressing my thoughts and my experience for the last 16 days that I missed the world, its going on; among the missing greatly was my cat Johnnie II…I’m sure the feeling is mutual ! ! !
You should see the way Johnnie II is bothering me as I try to explain my absence…NO I DID NOT HAVE A HEART ATTACK OR ANY SURGERY!

In friendship and in much need to be back where I belong,,,HOME ! ! !

I feel for you, Dan. My brother in law is in one of those supposed facilities, He started with 12 t shirts and 16 boxer shorts and is now down to 1 of each, what these people do with the clothing, I have no idea. On top of it, the one person my sister in law trusted to make sure things were taken care of was fired last week, probably for actually taking care of the patients. Having had to go visit one of these places, the stench is usually unbearable, it is enough to make you want to let go.

Thanks to all who took the time to reply and to those that did no. Under the DelGreco name, you may see about fortysome names who took time to tune in.

You cannot underestimate the love and need of a feline [cat] for its keeper. Her actions speak one helluva louder than any words I can put down here. It's great to be needed and loved...even by a species other than human.

I agree that the care given to people in those facilities is dismal. Everyone knows what you need, and no one bothers to ask for your opinion. I'm glad you are back with your cherished cat, Dan. May the next few years be smooth sailing!!

Still among the living dead. Just came home today from the HOSPITAL...used LifeAlert button, had a little over $200 in a pants pocket when taken into the ambulance...it disappeared on the way to hospital.

NO PAIN just lost balance and fell. SPENT FOUR DAYS OF HELL IN THE HOSPITAL. Not a good place to reside for more than a simple fall.

Must try to find some daily help inside the home.

Glad to hear you back on Dan,

If you need some daily help I am sure there must be something there. Here in Canada we have Health care aids or as they are called now "PSWs" Personal support workers. My wife was a PSW for over 20 years helping people in their homes with personal care and light housekeeping .

Looking forward to your getting back on line here when you get stuff straightened out.

There's a possibility that your pockets were emptied and the contents put into a bag that the hospital forgot to return. Worth asking anyway ;)

Falling is not good, glad your alert button worked. My mum used hers and when she didn't answer the phone the operator assumed she was ok and it was a mistake. She waited on the ground in the garden for ages for help then dragged herself down the path across two rooms to a to a table where she managed to pull a phone off onto the floor and called for help!

Don't you have agencies that could get somebody to look in for 15mins three times a day to see you are ok and help with anything you need?

Yesterday called my favorite restaurant and ordered a meal for this evening. Scrod Mediterranean with a vegetable salad, [although tomatoes are of the fruit variety.]
Enough food for 3 meals, just had portion #1. What a difference from the bland food
served in the hospital. Even on a low sodium restriction.

Johnnie II is not eating! Hope it is a reaction to my coming home.

I wish I could relate about my four days in the hell hole, but it could be deleted,
so no words about my hospital experiences.

Dan, hope you and Johnny Ii are relaxing comfortably this evening. You may not realize how much we miss your posts, there may not be many replies but plenty of listeners. I hope you have a record of your autobiography because it would be interesting to hear your thoughts about things in the last 100 years, I only have 64 years of thoughts, but love history, photos of old places that aren't anymore or still are. Sincerely, in interested listener.

If not someone here, does anyone know the name of the diner he frequents? Maybe someone there could stop by. There's a place called the Country Club Diner that sounds like his description. only about a half mile away from his duplex.

I just called Andonios. Both women said that they haven't seen Dan in quite a while. I'm not sure how well they know him but I do know that one waitress from there used to go to Dan's house every Tuesday to take out his trash. Maybe we should start checking Facebook and looks at Dan's Facebook friends to see if they post anything about him.

    Bill Stuntz el al.,

Well yesterday I thought I'd take a try and find out what's going on with Danny.A long time ago that was what I did, find people who didn't want to be found. As he wasn't actually hiding it wasn't that difficult and with a little bit of luck I did manage to locate his nephew, Steven. I gave him a call and left a message on his answering machine. Today Steven informed me that Dan has been back in rehab the last two weeks. I suspect it has done him some good as he is scheduled to return home sometime over this weekend. Knowing him somewhat I would guess as soon as he is able he will be posting to let us all in on his situation. The last time we spoke on the phone, I think he was very tired and apologized for his inability to talk at length so I would expect he may need a few days to get back to the board.

That's exactly how I felt and you are all very welcome! When Dan and I "met" we were at the opposite ends of an issue and couldn't be further apart. He certainly proved, over the years, that he is a decent person and possesses high moral character,a big heart and is truly a "treasure"and loyal member of this organization. On occasion he has taken the time and has given me fatherly advice and on occasion I have accepted it. :) Dan is a gentlemen first class and it's a privilege to call him a friend. I think all of your concerns and kind comments will be warmly received by him and let's all hope and pray they help in his recovery back to his normal self.

I'm so glad he is alright. I know he is not happy in rehab. He is so used to being independent and having his own schedule and routine. When you are in a hospital, rehab or a nursing home you have to follow their rules. That's really hard for an older person to accept. I hope he can return to his home and own routine soon. Losing my independence is my greatest fear. I'm not quite as old as Dan, but the years are flying by swiftly.

Hurry back Dan, we miss you.

    Missy
