Bruce, your clock looks like those made by Columbus Clock Co., Columbus, MS. Is it Columbus or Davis?

Below is a Davis Clock Co, ogee that has been in my family since it was new. It is an eight day, spring driven New Haven. Davis used movements from several different companies.

Here are two photos of a clock I owned years ago. With first glance it appeared to be a Gilbert Elberon with a calendar dial. The label proved something different. "The Davis Clock Co." with location as Texarkana, Arkansas

You have read the reference in the Bulletin incorrectly. In the last photo that you posted in your first post above, it plainly states that Davis bought 8000 weight driven Gilbert ogee movements.

I also have personal knowledge that he bought movements from New Haven because I have an eight day New Haven spring driven movement/clock that has been in my family since it was new.

There are a lot of Davis clocks around but no one can tell you exactly how many.

That's impossible.......no one has that information. That's like asking how many grains of sand are on a beach.

How, do you suppose, would we know? I suspect that level of information is not available anywhere. If there were a data base counting Davis Clock Co. clocks, it probably would be incomplete.

I will attempt to answer your question as it pertains to my part of the country (about 50 miles from the Mississippi state line). In 35 years I have owned about 15 of the Miss. Davis Clocks, attl spring driven with half columns on each side of the case. The Columbus Clock Co. label is not as common. The O.G. clocks I have seen are spring driven also but is appears that some were originally made for weight movements.
Most collectors in Mississippi have at least one of these clocks.
The Texarkana Davis clocks came in 3 different models, all variations of the Gilbert Elberon case. Thes are much harder to find than the Columbus Miss. Davis clocks, all I have seen have the same Gilbert 8-day spring driven movement with calendar.
I would say it is not a rare clock, nor an expensive clock but it is an interesting historic clock.

Good question, Movements are the same, clock directions in the back of case are very similar. People in Mississippi say their factory goes back to the 1890's. No record of a factory in Texarkana, but seems like the clocks were sold after 1900. Wish I had more. The only really diff. Texarkana Davis case has a divided door with a beautiful picture in bottom part, usually of children and top glass has a design parted on glass.

I would assume that since the dates and locations are in dispute that any records are lost? What about Gilbert? Are there records that indicate when the movments were made for Davis? The 1990 artical states apperantyly they had a branch in Texarkana.I dont have acc to my issue right now but there must have been a sorce for that. Also I seem to remember a Davis from another southern state as well.

I have the exact same clock. Spring driven 8 day calendar as well. Has the Columbus Miss label inside with the same picture of the clock on it. The works are stamped Gilbert.
