I have a Seth Thomas wall clock circa 1881 #44. The cord is on a grooved spool and when clock was moved the cord was displaced on spool. In the process of letting the weight pull the cord to the end of its cycle. When rewinding, does the cord start at the front or back of the spool?

To my knowledge it starts on the end where the end of the cord is attached to the spool

That makes sense Currently the cord has overlapped the cord on the spool Any advice would be appreciated.

Do you have a let-down tool. Other that that you will have to let it run down normally.

The cord could be off the spool. If this is the case, you will have to turn the drum by hand to get the cord off (from around the arbor) and back on the spool. Or, get the cord completely off the spool, then you can wind it back on as it should be.

Speaking of "should be", there should be only one layer of cord on your spool. Actually about one turn less than a single layer is best.

Much appreciated! Hopefully, I can remedy the problem once it runs down because I don't have a let-down tool.

The cord has been rewound as suggested but now the pendulum has stopped working. I am starting it but it slows down and eventually stops in about 1 hour. It was working perfectly before it was moved. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help.

Need more information.

A good photo of the spooled cord and a close-up video of the escapement would be good.

'It was running good before I fixed it' is a very common thing. :)
