I have an Illinois 18-size, Grade IWC, Model 2, on deck, and I was wondering what people were using to lubricate the gear train pivots on large 7-jewel watches like this these days. I don't come across such watches very often. All suggestions are much appreciated.

I've had several old watchmakers tell me to not oil the pivots on the palate fork What are other's opinions?

9020 is a really good universal oil for pocket watches. I use it for the balance pivots the gear train works fine. Usually for the center jewel I switch to the HP 1300 a heavier oil.

Universally frowned upon to oil the pallet fork pivots. They're not considered a revolving component and there supposed to be moving relatively fast were lubrication actually would dampen that movement.
