    Kent, see image namespace.

For images that are not full color, it is best to copy and save them as .gif files, I think. That also allows you to give them a good title.

I considered the file title that I had to be a "good title" (at least for the purpose of experimenting). Why didn't it work?

I forgot to look at the name in the caption on the first one. If you save these black and white images as .gif files you won't have any problem loading them. I am surprised you are having a problem anyway.

I changed the earlier name because the url I was looking at would not work for a name.

For Encyclopedia images leaving the spaces in the name instead of inserting underscores make the names a little easier to read.

I tried using spaces in lieu of underscores in attempting to upload one of these recent jpg files. It didn't work. I got the same "... must have the same name ..." error message.

Having to go through all of my scans (the majority of which haven't been uploaded yet) and convert them to gif files (and upload some again as Encyclopedia images) is going to be a real pain in the butt and a discouraging factor in putting up new stuff.

If you are getting the name must match error message, you are not copying the name correctly.

You don't have to convert to .gif, it just gives better performance both when uploading and when viewing the article using the image.

When you are loading an image from an image site that has a database, the name will not generally be in the URL. For example the names are not in the URL of an image that has been uploaded to this web site as a post attachment. You have been uploading quite a few images as attachments, which puts the title and the file name in separate places.

I created a directory on my desktop that I call file transfers and I generally convert the files and store them there with a useful name. Then I can reference those copies when building an image article.

The files are on my hard drive. I copied file name from the folder list of files. I then pasted it into the "Title" box and, for good measure, I then pasted it in the "Message" box.

I opened the "Managed Attachments" box and used the "Browse" button to open the folder list, from which I selected the file whose name I was copying and pasting.

Finally, I clicked on the "Upload File from your Computer" button and got the "... must have the same name ..." error message.

After several iterations with and without underscores, with and without the filename extension, I gave it up as a bad job and came here to continue uploading images.

Obviously, I'm missing something simple. Although I'm not a computer whiz, I'm a long way from being computer illiterate. If I'm having trouble, other people who'll want to add images to the encyclopedia are going to have trouble also.

I am sympathetic Kent, but I do exactly what you just described and I have never had a failure. I mostly use Firefox, but I have done this with both ie and Firefox.

Typically, I select the image file name from a directory listing and paste it into the title box of the Encyclopedia New Image form.

I then click on the paper clip and navigate to the file using the browse button and double click on it. I then press upload and when the file is uploaded, I close the window on the attach dialog box.

Next I close the edit window (sometimes I type in a further description of the file before closing the edit window. I do not try to use the ATTACH tag to insert the image in the image article.

After I press submit, I see the completed image article.

I can think of several problems.

Try renaming your file to something simple like:

    doc1001.ext

Test this to see what your result is!

I'm perplexed - it works now, both with Mistake and with 1926_Dec_Royal.jpg.

Thanks for spending your time on what turned out to be a non-problem.

I installed an update about noon today that addressed poor handling of extra information on images. I still don't know exactly what got your files cross wise, and we may never know, but I am glad it is working now.

There is a bug in the Encyclopedia software that causes names with ampersands to behave badly. Changing it to and worked fine.

The article image is very large in terms of file size. It was over 216 kbytes after converting to .gif format.

Both articles have been uploaded. I tried really hard to preserve your names this time, but I did convert them to .gif since it represents no additional effort after making the copy.

That is "The Schnookster" to you brother!! It is a Seiko crown and I was trying to see what I could do by taking a photo thru my magicdefyng glass. (Actually these were taken with a B&L hand triplet or doublet I don't know which or what diopter.) The guy pulled the wrong crown out of stock for the watch pictured. BTW, you are a veerry punny scooty! (hard to burr the rrr's in text) Bennet Cerf made a New Years resolution never to pun again. His friends locked him in a closet and refused to let him out until he spake said pun. After a long 2 or 3 second delay, Benny said; "O pun the door!"
    73 bro.
(if you don't know what that means, I never said it)
This is a test and only a test. If it had been something of a useful nature, it would have been some where else!

I have attached a pic of the stem that the crown was supposed to go on .. some fun to get it to fit I recon. The crown can be seen as a blurry lump in the background, and a pic of the B&L's.

I think the longest recorded burst of continuous laughter by a comedian was during dead silence. George Burns, I think, when asked, at the point of a gun, "your money or your life!"
A long time later after continuous laughter during his silence - that inimitable Burns expression and, " I'm thinking."
