Pendulum leader query

I have noticed in the clock I an currently working on that there is some horizontal play in the crutch arm where it inserts into the pendulum leader, perhaps only 0.5mm but was wondering if this would have any effect on the swing/beat of the pendulum. There is certainly horizontal movement during the swing and I am tempted to try to tighten the fit so that there is no play but thought it better to get some expert opinions first.

There should be play. Too tight will stop the clock. As minimal as possible without rubbing is perfect.

A pic would be good. Too loose will also affect the clock negatively.

I have uploaded a short video of the pendulum swinging where you can just about see a slight movement between the crutch end and the leader. It's only slight so probably ok based on what wow wrote.

Another somewhat related question. Is there any major issue in changing the suspension spring to a different one provided the new one fits ok. In the attached photo the spring on the right is like the original one which broke ( it's from another clock) and the one on the left is the closest match I have.

The one on the left will probably work if it is not too stiff. Is this for a French clock?

It's a 'try and see' thing. The pendulum will have to be shortened a good bit. Willie X

It's a 2 train English mantle clock. I have it running now and will adjust the pendulum length as needed.
