I guess my question would be different than yours....

For those people who want to define, "what a watch is",
tell me why the Smart watch isn't a watch. (and I don't own one)

Strangely, I kind of liked the proposition that the
iPhone was a modern day pocket watch. My son
    thinks that is rediculos.

I'm sure the "real" sundial enthusiast would say they have the real
clock, everyone else has a "fake" clock:cool:

A true watch is basically just a watch. Smart watches, cell phones, etc., are quartz/electronic circuits or computers respectively, with a clock function. They have a built in clock function, but it's not their primary job. IMHO a true watch is a device who's primary job is to give us the time.

Well that's what I tell people who say they don't need a watch they have a phone, and I say "a hundred years ago your grandfather would have pulled a device from his pocket, pressed a button, read the time, close the device and place it back in his pocket, isn't that what you are doing with your phone?, so basically you've gone back a hundred years"
