The latest addition to our collection of French clocks. Can't see a makers stamp on the movement but it is marked 4486 on the back plate and 8662 on the front plate. Inside the rim of the dial it is stamped Godet. While Henri Godet did make some clocks he specialised more in bronzes so I'm not convinced this is one of his. Like it all the same as it's something different to what we already have.

Nice! Very classical looking and a neat subject - Knights. Figurals are one of my favorite clock styles and this one is cool. It looks like it had a dome - do you have it?

No, I wish it did. They are dearer than the clocks to buy! Yes, figurals are a nice style....though I saw one here for sale yesterday which has a couple holding hands, and they would be the ugliest pair I have ever seen!

So, you're saying... Made for each other, eh?

Too bad about the glass, and yes, they are pricey, especially anything more fancy than a standard anniversary clock style.

    I still love your clock.

This is another of our figural clocks. It's a Gilbert. Having the movement repaired at the moment as it had let go and took most of the cogs with it. Very unusual movement as it is smaller than usual and is triple plated. Hard to come across...here in Australia anyway!

Very nice clocks! Blacksmith is 20" wide. We also have one called the Hunter which we got from France recently. (Pic below. The rabbit he is meant to hold was missing but we managed to find a bird to take it's place for now. Though you have inspired
me to try to make a rabbit now. These are some of our other figural ones...we also have several with figural toppers...

That's a nice collection. Did you find them in Australia or did you import them? I imagine the are hard to come by there, but I don't have a clue what the market would be like.

The Hunter was from France but all our others clocks we have bought here, either through Auction, E Bay or several local sales websites. It is easier to pick up English, German or American Clocks here but there is a fair bit of competition for the French ones. All of ours have cost well under $500 AUD, except for the last few as the price is slowly creeping up, but can still pick them up under $1,000 AUD. The Hunter was actually cheaper to buy from France than some here. What is the market like over there?

The market is down and seems to continue sliding in that direction in the 4 years I have been collecting. All 4 of my figurals were $100 USD or less after a little negotiation. All of them required repairs to the case and / or movement. I'm hoping now that repairs have been done they are worth at least a few pennies more. :D

I live in Pennsylvania, so there are a lot of early American clocks available, as well as those from other countries. Merritt's is only 10 minutes from my work, so I have a ready source of parts, and I have bought a few basket case clocks from there for cheap and a few nicer ones at market prices (but all low end $)

That's great. We can pick up most American ones for around $100 AUD. I started with a Waterbury and a Sessions but then decided I liked the French ones better. We have been given several clocks, a Gingerbread and a couple of wooden Napoleon hat types, one English and one German. I've got a small lot of English Petit Point Alarm Clocks as well. We are up to 124 clocks. It's a disease! Someone said that it's not so much the clocks but the hunt that excites us and I think it was pretty spot on. There was a chap here who had a shop called a Time and a Place and he died early last year. A lot of his clocks from the shop are slowly filtering through the auctions but the auctions are touch and go as you can't be sure they are working. We got caught with the Blacksmith that way. Repairs to that were beyond our level so it has gone to a clock repairer which is going to make it an expensive clock.
