• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Hello. Got an old ansonia patent brass clock. Took the movement out to have a closer look.
does this movement look original or is it a replacement? No stamp just a patent date.
Thanks

Without seeing the case, including label (if present), I'm not sure we can actually answer your question about the originality of the movement. The patent is likely the following:

Hi willie. From reading these threads and getting information from you guys I start to notice or think I notice stuff.,
The plates seemed thin, the lack of a makers name. Brass seems less substantial than some of the old movements I have from this period.
Anyway Ill post the case tonight and you guys will know. Thanks

Ansonia Brass and Copper Co. was in business from 1869 to 1877. I can see no reason, from these pictures, to doubt that the movement is original to the clock case. In January 1877, the Ansonia Brass and Copper Co. was consolidated into the (second) Ansonia Clock Co., of which H.J. Davies was the General Manager.
Thanks Steven. I have the movement back in and running. Appreciate the help.

Correction. I mistyped a date in the above statement. January 1877 should be January 1878, when the second Ansonia Clock Co. officially began business.
