Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

Origin and age of my tower clock dial, hands and motion works?

Earlier this week, I obtained an antique tower/turret clock dial, hands and motion works. The woman who sold it had recently purchased a large house and found it stored in the basement. The home's previous owner only said that it had been shipped from France. The dial is approx. 44" (112 cm) in diameter. The dial appears to be porcelain on a metal pan surrounded by a zinc (?) bezel surround on a wood base. Photos follow. Do the distinctive hands and ball shaped nut securing the hands to the motion works provide any clues to its origin? Does the motion works offer any clues? Any information is appreciated.

Thanks,

The style of the hands and dial as well as the general design of the motion works all suggest work done on the continent, i.e. France or nearby countries in the very late 18th century or the 1st quarter of the 19th century.
