Hello folks. New member but many years of realizing the knowledge and skills of forums like this. I came across this piece and would like to get her working again. It's electric. I replaced chord (very bad). Once plugged in it wanted to work, needed a little help with spinner on back. Some very thin oil got it going. But it wont stay running and the second hand moves normally then slows down considerably. I imagine a good cleaning is required. I don't really see any way the back opens up to see moving parts. Attached pics. Hope to hear from the knowledge that's out there. Thanks

Even though you have replaced the cord the stub wires that you connected are old and of the type where the insulation can easily crack. This is most likely to happen where the two wires enter the motor side-by-side. When that happens there will likely be fireworks or worse. There is no practical was to replace these wires to make this a safe clock to run. For under $5 bucks you should be able to get a 100% safe and reliable quartz battery powered movement and hands and have a very interesting old clock.

Check the internet for Synchronous clock motor repair. I think there are guys out there who repair/replace them.

Thanks for the advice and help. I did what you suggested. Attached pic of finished clock. We have it in a spare/guest bedroom. The theme for decor of this room is 'Nautical ', so perfect piece.
