I recently purchased two eiIght day ogee clocks at a regional. One was a Forestville and the other was a Welch. The weights I received (from the same person) were about 2.5 pounds each. I don't have any otherr eight day ogees for comparison, but these seem to be what I would expect for a 30 hour. All my other eight day brass clocks use 8 pound weights. However, it looks like an 8 pound weight would not fit easily into the cases.

Forgot to mention, the label on the Forestville was by Elihu Geer at 1 State Street (1847-49) and the Welch was printed by Gilbert, Calhoun at 66 State St. (1856-60).

No. They run for a few minutes, but not very well. Both are dirty and need cleaning. Also, someone was playing with the strike side and both are really messed up.

8 day clock weights are generally in the 8 pound range. There some fair number of shapes/forms of those weights, certainly several different approaches

Interesting sketches. Looks like #9 might be appropriate. Where did these sketches come from?

The drawings are from a catalog of weights as made by Vince Versage. No longer available as Vince passed away a long time ago. I have written approval of copyright owner to publish these drawings.

I found some 8 lb weights to try. I put one on the E.N. Welch and it has been running for the last 24 hours. So I suppose this is the answer to my questions.

    Thanks for everyone's input.
