What is the general opinion of quality on a Swiss ETA Movement. I want a Automatic Mechanical and a "Fakex" looks like a possibility. It has a Valjouix automatic movement. I know it is not a real Rolex, but it seems to be a nice watch all the same and meets the requirements of a jeweled mechanical automatic at around 200 bucks. Ya or Nah............

Are we talking about a new watch or used? Valjoux chronograph movements of current vintage such as the 7750 are excellent workhorse movements and are found in watches made by many watch manufacturers. They are probably the most commonly used Swiss automatic chronograph movement. If my personal experience with a Hamilton Khaki chronograph is typical one should expect a daily rate of 1-2 seconds and that is with the lowest 7750 grade.

Don't expect to find a new one for the price you've mentioned, multiply by 2-3 times at least. If you have budgetary problems consider a chronograph from the Hong Kong maker Alpha or their US distributor Alpha USA. They use Seagull ST-19 movements in Rolex homage designs. For your money you will get a well made watch with a nicely finished Chinese made Venus 175 manual wound chronograph movement. Machinery was purchased from Switzerland in the 1960s so that the Seagull Watch Company could manufacture chronographs for the Chinese military.

You are talking about a 7750 but it could be 7733

Honestly I don't know "7750 but it could be 7733" . They say I think Valijoux 31 Jewel if my memory serves me. Ron, I can't honestly believe a >>>>>CHINESE ANYTHING<<<<< let alone a watch movement is better than a swiss.....be it 7750 or any other! They are 200.00 and have a swiss made ETA Valijoux 31 Jewel Mov't. As far as this goes
>>>this is the piece, this is the price.....yay or nay, and it appears we have 1 yay.<<< IMHO....... With everything else being made in CHINA, and this being the downfall of the USA, anything Chinese will be my last resort if I buy one at all, but thanks for the answer. Hope to get some more opinions here...........AFW where were you going with this?

NAY........................0 / YAY.........................1

Guys,

A word of caution here.

We do not promote, encourage or even talk about the purchase of fake Rolexes.

This is quite different than discussion of switching cases and dials and such.

Counterfeiting of any kind is verboten.

Especially Rolex.

I urge you to find a nice 1960's Rolex beater for 600 or so (genuine) and fix it up rather than 100 to 500 on a fake. YOu will feel better about yoursef as well.

Cheers!

Alpha...........Interesting................
-> posts merged by system <-
With all due respect. It is a "Swiss Made Mechanical Automatic Watch" and if there is going to be a problem, I'd like my post modified to state as such. Please Remove the name ROLEX from my first post as well as all accounts of the Manufacture's NAME. I will refer to it as a Swiss Made Mechanical Automatic Watch from here on however I will never spend money on a so "named" watch too many nice pocket watches to buy, oh and I haven't won the lottery yet! Please simply for my reference locate in the NAWCC rules where anything I said was out of line, furthermore honor my request to change the said name to "Swiss Made Mechanical Automatic Watch" and delete this post to clean it up a bit!!!!!! I am only interested in it for what it is not the name on it!

The 7750 has been around for years and was used in everything from GPs to the least expensive. I recently saw a new Tag Heuer with a modern 7750 and it was pretty sharp. I am wearing a Hamilton Khaki with a ETA 2824 inside. It quite literally runs spot on. I set it by my computer clock two weeks ago and it is still holding the same minute as the computer. Not bad for a watch I bought on EBay for $175. The modern Swatch Hamiltons are just about the best quality for the dollar out there. A worthy successor to the American company.

Ron hit it just right.....Dave another great idea. You both are on my frequency....... I think for what little I'd have to shell out though the Alpha wins here. Funny how you bring up a topic like this and right away certain people want you to spend more than you planned. Hmmmmm..... This being a Niche piece, I will wear it by default and it WILL get beat up. Who wants to kill a 50 year old thousand dollar Rolex? Why I wanted WHAT I WANTED. Ron & Dave Bravo Guys!!!!! By the way the wife has a nice looking Hamilton Wristie(Very similar to H31211135 but braclet style) She talked me into it after my 3rd pocket!

No new genuine eta 7750 will cost $200. Not even the movement by itself.

That being said, the chinese and especially Seagull have been making some amazing stuff lately. Even presented a tourbillon in Switzerland. Of course everyone laughed and pointed at how they must have copied another design..

As for swiss made, last I read of it, only 50% of the making cost of a watch has to be from Swiss labor. Make a comparison of prices in Switzerland and China and you wont be surprised to know that there are quite a number of swiss brands importing chinese movements and making them "swiss".

I'd go for the seagull st19 movement myself, being a column wheel chronograph..
