Re: Watch Crystals
You may be able to find the parts, but it will take some effort and probably be rather expensive. That's most likely why the watchmakers didn't want to put the time in for it, they would only be losing money on their regular work. I don't really do much with Swiss watches, and none with Patek Phillip, so I won't be able to give you much direction for the search. The first thing you will need to do is figure out which caliber the watch is (the model). You can probably post to the European and Other Pocket Watches board to get it identified. Post good clear pictures of the back of the movement and the front with the dial removed (especially the winding mechanism). Also include any writing or symbols you can find on the movement. Then wait to see if anyone can identify it.
Once it is identified go to the Watch Repair board and at the top are two stickies, one labelled Watch Parts Wanted that you can post a request for parts in, the other is labelled Parts Sources and lists many places that sell watch parts. Browsing those sites and calling the businesses may locate the parts.
You may also want to talk to the first watchmaker you took the watch to and find out if he noticed any other parts missing or damaged that would need to be replaced.
Good luck, I hope you have success in this endeavor.
