Over the last 3 or 4 days I have not been receiving any alerts on threads or conversations. I had not made any changes in my selections. I have tried updating the alerts and the problem remains. Anybody else having this problem?

I'm not signed up for email alerts (except for conversations), and I did get the email alert for the last conversation response that was sent last week. I have been seeing the alerts for threads when I log on as usual. Hope this helps.

I have not received e-mail alerts during that time period.

I checked my preferences and they have not changed.

    Regards.

JIm, check to see if you have alerts for this quote. I also "liked" your post; you should receive an alert for that. Let us know.

Jim, I logged in as you to view your alert preferences. They seemed to be the same as mine. In your alerts, I saw the two that resulted from my actions this morning. I marked them as unread and they showed up next to your avatar. I also noticed that you had some unread conversations, which also showed up next your avatar. If theis persists, there is always the fallback - log out from the MB, clear all NAWCC cookies, then log back in to see what's what. If you want to try that and then post again here, I can run the test again. Otherwise, I am missing something that I am unaware of.

You are talking about email alerts? Mine stopped coming too, and I don't miss them ;) I use the alerts that Steven is talking about.

I receive the "red dot" alert on the message board, but my e-mail alerts stopped for no apparent reason.

If that is what Jim is referring to, then I misunderstood, and I would not have noticed when they stopped. I have never elected to receive any e-mail alerts. Too intrusive.

Well, I like the email alerts, but it appears you are 10 times more active than me, so that I understand too. I am hopefull the email alerts can be an ongoing feature and not being removed as someones idea of an "enhancement."

It is strange that the email alerts seem to have stopped suddenly. Perhaps @Tom McIntyre can help sort this out.

There is no mechanism for turning off email alerts for everyone. Like Steven, I had turned my email alerts off because of the volume, I just turned it back on to check this out.

One possibility is that our mail server is fried, but I do not think so. I get quite a bit of other mail from here about system status and that sort of thing.

You are only sent one email alert following your last visit to a thread. If you get in the habit of just looking at the email and not following the link to the thread, eventually, they will dry up, at least until you post something new.

Tom, unfortunately email notifications stopped 2-3-4 days ago. I still have an icon when I open the MB page showing any new messages or new comments on any threads I have participated in. No emails, none, nada. I have flushed out all my cookies, deleted and reloaded Firefox, verified I have the same problem using Internet Explorer, etc. I have chaged my selections for notifications and put them back on our MB. No help. I have checked my blocked senders list, not there. I have looked in my Junk mail files, I have looked in deleted emails etc. Nothing there.

Others are reporting the problem also, so it is most likely not the email server or my internet provider or anything in my Outlook selections, or anything in any of my 4 internet browsers. Irritating.

i was thinking it might be a change in firewall settings in Columbia. I was not thinking local issues. It is affecting me also now that I have enabled email notifications.

The only control settings on the Message Board are the personal ones in your preferences. I did check that yours were all set. I will talk to Kevin about it tomorrow. It is possible that I misconfigured something on our server also.

There is a backend control for alerts from the Encyclopedia area which is currently turned off. I will turn that on and see what happens.

I received a notification from this thread after I made the edit to the Encyclopedia setting. It would appear that the implementation there was a little careless if that fixed it for everyone else also.

I just now directed the system to send you an email. Let me know if you get it.

no email on any of the 3 comments on watched threads including this one. The other 2 followed this time stamp, so I think I still have a problem.

If you did not receive an email from donotreply@mb.nawcc.org, the problem is broader than alerts.

The alert emails are getting across the Atlantic without any problem; using Firefox and Thunderbird, with BT as my ISP.

If Comcast has blacklisted us, you may be able to add us to your safe senders list to see if that helps.

I checked the largest public list of blacklisted ip addresses and we are clear on all of them except Barracuda times out on the request for information. We are using some barracuda services in Columbia and Sucuri may also have some setting that could affect this. It is looking pretty isolated at the moment.

You said that others were having this problem. If I knew who they were that might help sort it out.

You are also using Comcast, so that might be a clue. Thanks.

It may take several accounts to sort this out, so anyone else who uses email alerts and is having trouble, please let us know.

If you know your isp, please include it in your reply.

shutterbug is using aol, so we probably need to verify that he is having the same problem. Of course AOL is not really his isp, just his mail server. AOL is able to filter your emails, of course.

I just received an e-mail notice for a thread that I subscribe to.

Is it safe to say the issue is fixed?

    Thanks for your help.

I wish there were something we could do about this. Comcast is a very large corporation and Columbia PA is at the end of a very long chain of technical support. The local person is not authorized to make obvious corrections without authority from the upper ranks.

We have all Comcast service in Columbia for telephones and Internet, so firing them would be a very serious step.

I wouldn't recommend firing them at all. I have had their service for years and have generally been quite pleased with it. My workaround is to use my Gmail account, where I do get notifications. But, that gives me two places to lose things and two places to remember to look. So, I actually have 4+ email addresses and providers, any of which I can use, and 3 of the 4 will apparently give me alerts. Just a pain to use other than Comcast for the way I work. Not a big deal. As a stack ranking of pains to have, this one is pretty well down the list.
