$40 is not too much, however, I think you could have gotten something more antique and valuable for $40. I believe you could get $100-$120 from the correct buyer(if you want to profit/sell).

Hi,

A three-train clock in fully working order and in excellent condition for $40 isn't anything to complain about - it's only a little more than $10 per train, if you think about it! It all depends wether you prefer these modern products, which are of no great interest to collectors, to antique examples. Personnally, as suggested above, I would sell it on for $120-$150 and invest that money in a better clock.
