• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

NOT CLOCK. Little feathered bird in cage peeps and moves. Wind up movement!

Goodwill. $2.99
Wound somewhat, but nothing happened.
Backward-turned the winding key to get it to operate. (Afraid to wind it tight.)
Removed dust from the mechanism.

Metal on nylon bearings? Do I oil or silicone?
Spinning governor's metal worm inserts into nylon pivots. Nylon gear turns governor's worm.

One wheel's bumps moves metal pawl to move the bird.
Other wheel's narrow and wide bumps (varying peeps) move the air piston forcing air into the whistle. (I do not see what whistles.)

Thank you for advice.
#1 Lower black cylinder contains air piston. #3 Wheels bumps move bird and pump air. #4 Spring at back #5 Black case (R) encloses the spring

Not sure these were ever meant to be lubricated... just run 'em until they bust, then buy a new toy.
Understood. It's fun and would like to get it to run better. Still need to find the whistle.
Like that it is mechanical and not electronic as first expected.

I’ve repaired the old ones . I had no idea new ones exist. Look for the whistle where the bellows(or pump) output is. I would go with silicone over oil but use it sparingly only on areas of contact. These simple automata are pretty wonderful . Good luck with the repair.-Cort

Looking again . The thing that looks like a pump may be the whistle and the horizontal drum underneath the bellows. An arm following the cam controls the pitch and period of the chirp. -Cort

Thank you. Could not think cam for wheel with bumps.
This does not vary pitch. Just
