• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

I have an 8 day Sessions mantle time and strike with a noisy fan wheel when striking. I think the noise is from where T4 wheel contacts the lantern pinion of the fan. I think the lantern trundles sit too low in the teeth of T4. The fan bushings are original. I can eliminate the noise by gently raising the pivot of the fan assembly. There is not excessive play in the fan or T4 bushing. Is the solution to raise the fan wheel with new bushings?

Could be a combination of worn fly arbor and S4 pivot holes, and worn trundles on the pinion.

I just finished an Ingraham with the same problem. I bushed the whole strike side from S-1 up, and the noise completely stopped.
Too much wobble in the fan pivots will cause it every time.

These clocks are naturally pretty noisy. Have you seen lots of em to make a comparison?

I usually check the trundles and if they are OK I re-bush the pinion end of the fly arbor. This usually helps but not always. Fly arbors can sometimes really chatter if the pivots are worn just a little.

Good luck, Willie X

Often, when people are trying to determine the 5° tilt rule on a tall arbor with a small pivot, they allow way too much. I agree with the advise above - tight bushings and good trundles are the solution.
