The maker is Regulateur Fabrik.... I believe the trademark was registered on or about 1896...

The manufacturer was indeed Regulatorfabrik Germania, in Freiburg in Schlesien. The company was founded in 1871 and absorbed by Gustav Becker in 1899.

I am not sure whether the serial numbers for RG were recorded when GB took over, but there is a Becker specialist on this site who will likely be able to tell you.

There is also quite a lot of information already on this site regarding the company, if you use the search.

    Nice looking clock.

    Re: New Aquision

Tony, thanks for posting. JTD correctly identified the maker of your clock as Regulatorfabrik Germania. Based on the serial number and other features it was made in December 1898, about six months before Germania merged with Gustav Becker and five other Freiburg makers on June 22, 1899 to form Freiburg United Clock Factories formerly Gustav Becker, also known as VUF (Vereinigte Uhrenfabriken Freiberger vormals Gustav Becker).

The dating of your clock is tied to the merger but also to the registration of the logo (1896) and primarily to a pendulum hanger with beat adjustment that was patented in November 1898. It doesn't appear that your clock has the patented pendulum hanger, so we need to see photos to confirm the details of your clock. It will be appreciated if you could post photos of the full back plate of the movement, also the front of the movement. The anchor pivot bridge and the anchor with pendulum crutch also need to be shown as well as the dial and hands.

For general info, the highest serial number recorded to date for a Germania clock is 256783. This clock could have been finished after the merger, which appears to have been done for some of the merged companies, however my data show it would not have been more than a month or two based on production rates leading up to the merger.

Sorry but we are not allowed to discuss values on this part of the board (see rules on posting).

I needed no separate insurance for any of my Viennas - house contents insurance covered them.
