The signature is likely for the retailer: David Cowen, 139 E 25th St, NYC. You will find him selling watches in 1850s directories. A bit of searching may get you a better active range.

I’ve no idea who actually made the movement, perhaps it’s signed under the dial. Can’t tell much about the case marks from pics.

Hi Jim,

This is a very modest Swiss 3/4 plate movement with a cylinder escapement, probably with just four jewels. The dust ring on the centre arbor is missing; it would have had a similar arrangement to the one on the mainspring barrel, but its lack won't affect its running.

Regards,

Graham

Hi Jim,

You will not be happy to read this, but if someone offers you a 3-figure range amount, clap your hands, take it, and give your spouse a kiss, for the brilliant day ;)

Best, Bernhard

Thanks for the information, I can’t remember how much I paid for it back in the1970s, but if it was more than $15-$20, I would be really surprised. I was an enlisted service member so I know I didn’t pay much! Thanks again!
