Looks like Josef Neumann, Wien. Wien is Vienna, Austria.

Others may have a different opinion.

    Regards.

Does anyone know any history on Josef Neumann? The internet is totally devoid of any infomation.

As the name appears on a plaque, it is probably the first owner of the clock.

It is not at all surprising that the internet searches come up empty.

    Regards.

Thank you, this is a clock I am considering purchasing, I was just trying to get a little history if I could find any before driving an hour and a half to look at it.

Well, it may be, but I would rather suppose it to be the retailer.

It would help if you could show us the complete clock.

If you have pictures of the complete clock, including the back of the movement, we may be able to provide the manufacturer and date of manufacture.

    Regards.

It looks to be a nice clock but there is nothing much to tell you that you don't already know from the photo. It is too blurred to see any detail. It could have been made by anyone, without further photos of movement etc. is impossible to tell. The weights and pendulum seem to be nicely decorated, but again too blurred to see properly.

If it were me, I would just go and see it.

Josef Neumann was the member of Vienna Uhrmacher Genossenschaft since 1872 and produced clocks (Durergasse 5).

Well I brought the clock home, it has a number 72 stamped on the front plate and the number 7872 stamped on the back plate and nothing else. It is a very nice clock. 20200105_155220.jpg 20200105_155812.jpg 20200105_153454.jpg 20200105_153447.jpg 20200105_153441.jpg 20200105_153505.jpg

I have to take the movement back out this weekend because one of the lines is pinched and won't let the weight drop. I will take some pictures of it then and post them

I'd like to hear the chime/strike. I was surprised to see metal on metal and not leather hammers, but I am a novice here, and wouldn't know if that was typical? When I think metal on metal, I hear a cuckoo or ogee sounding clang, not a nice mellow gong.

I took a video of it chiming but I can't put it straight on here, but yes it sounds like a brass hammer hitting a wire gong.

Thanks for confirming, but I'm still surprised a clock this nice looking would have such a going.

The typical protocol is to put the video on YouTube and then insert a link to it here.

If you need additional information for posting, let us know and someone can give you help.
