I was hoping for a little more detail than that .Yep. It is French.
Ok thanks for the infoWell, the problem is, that these were made in several locations with little ID information attached.
I'm sure someone here knows more but these are difficult to be specific about.
Thanks but I was mostly looking for anything on brand or design since I know it’s missing a few parts. If you do a search there is stuff to learn.
Roughly your clock is likely about 1850. Could be earlier or later for these were made for a long period.
The bell and arm the bell attaches to.Which parts are missing apart from the suspension?
Yeah sorry about the bad lingoBy the ladder I presume you mean the rack. You appear to be missing the gathering pallet and the strike lifter as well.
Probably I was just hoping for a name or something to make the search easier.Maybe someone from the nearest NAWCC chapter can help you with your search for parts. I'm reasonably sure that enough of these were made for a donor movement to still be around.
Yeah thought so too just was hoping someone might of had one they could tell me about.Very rare to see any name or signature on these, from what I've seen.
It is a shame because they really are very good clocks.
Thanks that’s what I thought but I thought I’d try just to say I didJust to back up what roughbarked is saying, even if you were able to find who made the movement, and were then able to find someone else who also knew who the maker was and who might have access to a spare movement with donor parts by that maker, there is no guarantee that these would fit - the bell and bell stand would almost certainly be OK, but the racks and other parts, there is just no guarantee that these would be a drop in fit. You might be better off looking for a complete movement, or if you have the skills to adjust the parts, a donor movement may be able to be found eventually. For example, if it were a Japy movement, Japy made thousands of different designs over the course of 100 years or more of manufacturing.
Wow! Thanks I really didn’t know anything about it and just thought I’d throw it out here and now I’m happy I didIt just so happens that I'm working on a clock right now that has almost this exact same movement. On the back plate there is a stamp that says "MAROUE DEPOSEE". Over the past year I've had 3 other of these types of movements but this is the only one that is stamped. Also, (you may already know this) the case is called a "Slate Clock". Hope that helps with your search
'Marque Deposee' means 'Trademark' in English. On the back plate there is a stamp that says "MAROUE DEPOSEE"
