I have a 7 jewel movement that is stamped ILLINOIS WATCH CASE CO. and I do not believe it is an Illinois watch. It looks like a Waltham model 1888 But looking up serial number it shows a different movement . Does anyone know manufacturer ?
thank you

At first glance it does look 95% similar to a Waltham 1888, however this is really not unusual (in old watches from other random manufacturers.)

So I will take a guess - "Swiss fake" - while we wait for more opinions. Any chance of a photo of the dial?

If it is Swiss, I wouldn't call it a Swiss Fake - it doesn't pretend to be anything its not.

I think that its just an inexpensive movement contracted for by the Illinois Watch Case Co. to be able to offer complete watches, housed in their lower end cases.

Here's my complete collection of these. Two mvts both found in mvt tins. One tin has partial label but serial number and description (nickel) doesn't match either mvt, though judging from the pristine nature of the screws I'd guess neither mvt was ever cased.
