Need advice about an Ansonia movement.

At a recent estate auction, I got this Ansonia Royal mantle clock and the matching candelabras. I believe this set is also called a garniture. Before I can get it running, I need to replace the strike side click and clean it up. As I studied the movement before starting to take it apart, I noticed the the posts on which the rack and lift arm pivot appear to be peened over rather than have a taper pin or clip to hold things in place. Thinking I might have run into a "Hall of Shame" repair, I removed the movement from another Ansonia clock and found that that movement is constructed the same way so I assume this is the way they came from the factory. My question is, how do you go about removing the rack and lift arm from these arbors without really tearing things up? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, TBPerry

I think I'd leave them in place and clean around them. You'd have to do some damage to get them off.

Hi, TB. I just overhauled one of these movements today out of an Ansonia "Nile". I just left them attached. Good quality movement, solid pinions. Only needed 4 bushings:thumb:. Is your movement trademarked? Mine is not.

Thanks Shutterbug and Harold. As you suggested, I cleaned the movement with these parts in place and they are moving freely so I don't really have any need to remove them. I just found it strange that the maker would make these moving parts captive rather than provide a way to remove them in the event they needed repair. Harold, I have two movements like this and they are both marked Ansonia Clock Co. New York USA. They are from this Royal and a Watteau that I posted a picture of some time ago.

Strange. Mine doesn't have the usual Ansonia trademark on the dial either. Just says Mfd. by Ansonia Clock Co., NY, USA on the bottom of the dial.

Neither of the clocks I mentioned have any form of identification on the dial. I was a little worried about it until I took them apart and found that both dials are very old and I don't believe them to be replacements.

Well, if the MANAFACKCHER did this, indeed: It DOES belong in the H.O.S.!
Just another of MANY reasons I prefer th' French ones. Leaved pinions, CUT wheels - list is endlos.
