Greetings to all, and thanks to those who assisted me with my Vienna regulator identification. Today I present a neat little Seth Thomas shelf clock. I came across it on "Offer Up" and felt it needed a good home. It appears that it has had some water damage because some of the veneer is lifting but all in all, it is in good shape, solid gong sound, but am having trouble with the escapement wheel and the pallet crutch loving one another. The fellow I bought it from said it had been in the family for over 70 years but he was downsizing and never bothered to wind it up. The face plate is led, and the paint is chipping off something awful. I was thinking of spraying it with a clear coat paint to preserve what is left of it. (Not sure though) The rose and the glass appear to be hand painted but the Gold guiling looks more like a stencil. The black back ground paint is chipping as well. I have released the tension on the springs to give them a much needed break, but for what I paid for it, it is a Diamond in the rough!!

Very common problem, paint chipping on old seth thomas clock dials. Many were replaced for that reason.

Can anyone tell me if the Seth Thomas I recently acquired is suppose to strike the half hour as well? She's been running for a few days now but only strikes the hour chime. Thanks!!

Many clocks from this era did not have a half-hour strike. This is, what, a 30-hour (one-day) movement? These particularly did not necessarily have a half-hour strike.
