Hi, I thought I would post some photos of my rendition of Allan Wolffs' skeleton clock (as full described in another thread). The photos are from 10 months ago and the clock is about 90% complete, it still needs some finishing and also rework of some components that I'm not happy with. I have been struggling for some time trying to make a brass framed glass case for it, but that's another story.

In the meantime I have progressed well with a one second regulator with a Strasser suspension and escapement, it should have it's first (unfinished) run within the next week or so.

Good work. How thick are the frame plates?

Thanks Allan. It is more progressed than in the photos but there is still some work/corrections to do before it is finished, including lots of polishing. I plan to get back to it once the obsession with the regulator subsides a bit.

    Hello Phil,

    Looks outstanding!

I'm also interested in the one second regulator you mention. Will you share that with us also?

Finally here are some photos after correction of a few machining errors and a round of polishing. After three failed attempts at making up a rectangular, brass framed glass case (it was getting expensive) I came across a suitably sized glass dome so for now I decided to forgo the brass case. My brazing technique has greatly improved however and I think I could be successful in a fourth attempt but for now I'm keen to get back to my 1 second regulator.

    Phil,
Beautiful work! I think the glass dome works great and gives an unobstructed view of your craftsmanship. So how does it run? Does it keep accurate time?
    Nicely done,
    Allan

Thanks for the comments Allan. It keeps time to within + or - 10 seconds a week providing the temperature is quite constant, otherwise its about a minute.

I thought you guys might like to see a video of my skeleton clock. It's looking a little dull after 2 years but was given no protective coating so some further finishing and polishing is in order. I rather like the antique look but it still needs to have a bit of sparkle.

I started the build at the beginning of July 2014 and completed it in October 2017. Although there are still things I would like to improve. The clock was 85% complete within 9 months of starting, with approximately 500 hours work performed. As this was my first clock I was keen to prove to myself that I could successfully build such an elegant clock. Once I reached this stage I allowed other projects to take priority, hence not completing until October 2017. Total time was somewhere between 600 and 700 hours, although a significant portion of this involved educating myself.
