I just got this Forestville jewelled clock. I think it's 1960's but I'm not sure about who makes the movement or how best to maintain. Also not sure about black lever on chime train(is it just for transport?). New to clocks so excuse my ignorance! Thanks for any help.
Yes the black lever is the lifter for the strike train to lift the hammers.
However, he/she may have been referring to the locking lever which simply holds the hammers from lifting and thus quietens them.
I have pretty much the same clock, and mine needs a service one day, loks to be around same era as this one. Black piece on the bottom is for when transporting clock and you dont want the noises from the chime bars, as the clock is jostled.
