My granny's vintage watch

    We inherited Granny's vintage Lucerne watch it's beautiful I believe it's a winding one but does not wind I'd like to know the history of it a serial number 60238 9848 is on the back it is a beautiful gold watch I believe it was bought in about 1961 in Germany any help would be great

    Granny's Lucerne watch my uncle bought it in Germany when he was at War brought it home to her somewhere around 61 serial number 6038-9846. This is a beautiful gold watch I have tried to find history on it but cannot if anybody knows how please let me know

    Lil Mac, without photos of the case and the movement inside along with the writing inside the case, not much can be told.

    Yes, your watch is one that has to be wound. If it won't wind, perhaps it is already fully wound. Try rotating the watch gently and see if it starts ticking.

    I don't think this is a gold watch - I can see no sign of any hall marks or other mark that would lead me to suppose it is gold, but perhaps you have found something that says it's gold. To me it looks like gold plate. The back is stainless steel and also says 'Base Metal'. This is not consistent with the rest being gold. Is the bracelet marked at all?

    I am not an expert on wrist watches but to me this looks like a very basic Swiss movement. I wonder if it was bought in an Army PX?

    Others may be able to tell you more.

    You are correct it is gold plated 12 K Hallmark inside the clasp

    Looks like a one jewelled pin pallet movement. Swiss made. Looks initially to be maybe Oris but there are many doubts.

    It was never of any great value other than the sentiment.
