Finally the day has arrived, my first Sonora chime clock by Seth Thomas! I bought this today at an auction after a bidding war with another gentleman. The hammer dropped at 85 dollars!! I haven't been this excited in a long time. It will certainly find a place of honor in my collection. It is running and striking also. Just needs a bit of love and attention in clean up and a good oiling. The only thing wrong with it is the Westminster tune is out of sync. I think I found a thread here that will help me remedy this. If not, I will reach out for help in a post in the repair section. That is one clock removed from my bucket list! Woo Hoo!!

It strikes on 5 bells. I drove an hour and a half just for that clock. And the auctioneer was so nice, per my request he had it up on the auction block within an hour. It runs awesome and sounds great other than being out of sequence. Seems like a fairly easy fix. I am going to give the movements a good cleaning so I can set it straight at that time.

Congratulation of the sonora. It appears to be like my five-bell model. If you mean that the chime is out of sequence then trip the set-off lever on the back of the movement to get it chiming correctly. I found if I wind mine 7 or so minutes before it chimes I will set off the chime. I wind mine right after it has chimed.

    Hello,

Sonora chime clocks are wonderful. Look the movements very carefully; they will probably require bushings; be very careful handling the springs in the barrels particularly chime movement - extremely powerful and could inflict serious damage on hands and finger - use a strong spring winder!!!

They are wonderful clocks, but are high maintenance ladies as so much is going on - our 9 bell ones need major servicing every 3 years.

They can be more complicated to get and keep running.

I just acquired this ST 5 bell, which was my great grandmothers's. It appears to be in good shape, but the key is missing. The movement is 90B. Can anyone provide guidance where I can find a replacement key? Thanks so much.

Read through this post - http://mb.nawcc.org/showthread.php?140898-Seth-Thomas-Sonora-keys&highlight=seth+thomas+sonora+key

The key for the time and strike is supposed to be the same as for the chimes. In the above thread we discussed why, for some reason, that was not the case on my Sonora. But basically you are looking for a number 6 if all your winding arbors match and all have similar wear and have not been filed to be cleaned up.

Best way to get a key for your clock is to take it to a clock repairman to have one fitted to the size needed. Either that, or order a few from a supplier to be sure to have the right one.

This is an excellent suggestion since it is a double ended key. One end winds the springs while the other turns the regulating arbor that is usually just under the hands. You need a key that fits both areas properly.

    Technically, you'll want a "6/0000" key.
Seth Thomas reproduction keys are available many places.
Look for one with a nice small tip on the "0000" end because of the very small hole in your dial.
