You are quite right to ask, I have changed the write up because it was a mistake. The box it is now in is 994, but the serial numbers are 136/10720.
The serial numbers for 994/16862, which I got from the article by Mercer. It was the box number that got me confused. While checking this, I came across 1656, which is signed J. Barraud & Co, Liverpool. See photograph on page 23.

I have a question for those who live in America. (USA) In the 1911 edition of Britten "Old Clocks and Watches and their Makers" on page 702 is listed Litherland, Peter. I quote " Under the title of Peter Litherland & Co.. he carried on a successful business for some years. A watch so named belonged to Col. Benjamin Tallmadge, an intimate friend of Washington, and is now in the "Sons of the Revolution". New York.

My question is does this still apply, and does anyone know its details? (two questions) It would be really good news if someone knew the serial number.
