I have a "no-name" 8-day, Grand father clock that requires the movement replaced. The only markings on the movement are 34, which I presume is the pendulum length. Where might I start looking for replacement movements? outside of eBay, are there any Seth, Ingram, etc model numbers I would want to search for in an effort to refine the search?

The click is broken on the time side and I am unable to tear down the movement to repair it. I have had it repaired once already with poor succes. Good Clock repair around here is very limited- so I was looking into replacing the movement

You can certainly ship the movement to a good repair service business, or you could do a thorough search locally for a shop with a good track record.
You're in SoCal, I'm sure there are good clock shops around there. Connect with a local chapter of the NAWCC and ask for a referral.

Repairing a click isn't difficult but it does require disassembly of course. The trouble with replacing a movement which is no longer being manufactured is the same as buying a used car off of some random "Buy Here, Pay Here" lot. You may be trading one set of problems for another and that's assuming that you can even find a "no name" movement which will fit your clock case/dial without making modifications.

If you're dead set on replacing the movement, the more information you can supply about the clock, the better your chances.

Good luck.

I'm actually now living in northern Virginia now (Winchester area). While I realize soliciting business is not allowed on the forum I would like to request if anyone has a known referral to a reputable shop in my area, I would appreciate a PM if that is ok. Thanks!

Your movement looks like a Gilbert, finding a replacement is possible but it might not be any better than the one you have, and certainly will require tear down and service, try contacting the local chapter of NAWCC for referral.

Look HERE for businesses in your area. May find some.

That's a fairly easy repair. [edited by author to remove objectionable content]
