What is a good replacement mainspring for a Model 1870 Crescent St KW, KS. Waltham lists it as a 2206, can't say I have ever seen one for sale. I also need the small winding wheel on the mainspring barrel. It originally had the stop works on the barrel but it is gone. The SN is 500163.

I'll look up the dimensions in my Waltham catalog and check to see if there are any other mainprings that would make a suitable replacement.
T Bob McKnight, Brian Cavanaugh, or Byran Eyring should be able to help with the other part.

Thanks, Derek, I have the Waltham catalogs from 1885, 1909 and 1948, there are some close matches. I will email the others for the winding gear to see what is available.

Do you know what end the 2206 m/s has? The 2208 has the same dimensions and is still available. The modern p/n is MS-JA708 and it has a tee end.

I assume it is a T end as that is how the barrel is set up. I have a bunch of 2208 springs so I will check them out as to fit in the barrel as it seems to be a bit thinner than one in an 1883.

Richie did you get a chance to check this 2208 MS? When I put mine back together the MS broke when I started to wind it up. Broke the tip off. If this 2208 will fit I'll get me one on the way from the bay.

Haven't had a chance yet, maybe I will try tonight, I have a load of blue steel 2208's and a couple of alloy ones that I am saving for a good 1872.

OK Please let me know if you can spare a blue one if they do work. I''d rather buy from you than do business on eBay.

I used to have over a dozen blue steel 2208 springs, think I can find them not to experiment on the 1870 barrel, think again, the joys of have too much stuff.
