MIDI clock question - start and stop without clock

Is it possible to use start / stop commands without the MIDI clock itself?

I want to start/stop a sequencer that I'm clocking from the CV clock (triggers) but which doesn't have a CV-based reset input. It does have MIDI and can start/stop with a MIDI clock.

So I'm wondering if I can rig up a way of doing it over MIDI with start / stop only, without the 24ppqn MIDI clock signal present - i.e. combining CV clock with MIDI stop/start.

Does anyone know if this might be possible?

kind of a stumper for this crowd... not really a mechanical clock question, not an electric horology question, in fact not really a horology question.

midi is a communications protocol. triggering midi events via a device's internal clock or via external devices or triggers depends on the devices... none of which are really clocks (even though every device that speaks midi probably has a clock).

maybe try a midi discussion forum?

Hello. I'm trying to sync my Pittsburgh SV-1 via midi clock. Everything is working fine, except Cubase will not send clock when I hit stop, despite the fact that I have "Send Midi Clock in Stop Mode" checked. am I misinterpreting what that checkbox means? I just want the synth to receive clock all of the time so that I can hear it without hitting play/record. You can see the little light on the SV-1 that shows every clock pulse when it's receiving it (and of course the sound, as I have the clock triggering the sound every beat). That light is off when I hit stop. When I hit play, it starts again. I have the following settings: Internal Timecode (Fireface 400) no machine control active midi timecode destinations FF400 1 and 2 (SV-1 being on midi 2 port) midi timecode follows project timeline Midi clock destinations FF400 1 and 2 (SV-1 being on midi 2 port) Send midi clock in stop mode

same answer as for the last person… This message board is for people who collect clocks, and not really targeted at people who use electronic devices that happen to have clocks in them.

Your first question is a cubase question... it would probably be better to ask in a cubase forum. the rest of your questions are around running cubase with a pittsburgh synthesizer. there might be a random synth (and even cubase) user here, but you should be asking your questions in electronic music forums, rather than clock forums... even though your hardware and software does reference internal clocks they are not really the clocks that get discussed here.

google?

Clock in midi terms is a pulse that aligns the timing coding of all of the different devices.

It does not record the time of day.

Clocks here use methods of measurement to translate electrical or mechanical movement into methods to show time of day.

You are asking about a protocol or coding issue, Starr FIRST with the software provider that you are using to generate the code.

There is likely a code that needs to be used to do what you are asking.
