I am repairing a hampden minuteman pocket watch with typical trashy beat up dial i know that the dial will never look new again. But i would like to know what methods others use to clean these old dials. Thanks.
I look at how the numbers and minute tract are applied after that I take a cotton q-tip and dip in ammonia and carefully start to lightly rub the tip over the dial if the numbers or the minute tract foes not start to lift then I take the dial and soak in the ammonia for about five minutes and repeat the rubbing with clean q-tips as I clean the dial, I have done this and it works for me, however the dial will clean up somewhat but without a picture of the dial don’t know for sure. Good luck.
